Vin Sumner founded and runs Clicks and Links Ltd, a specialist ICT company dedicated to providing the Public Sector with innovative web-based solutions and consultancy services. His current focus of work is on Virtual Worlds, in particular Second Life.
Vin has recently set up Second Places (www.secondplaces.net), a joint Venture with Fusion Unity which sets about recreating places and events in the popular online community of Second Life. Second Places is responsible for recreating the city of Manchester and Urbis Museum, which has been used successfully to market the city to a global audience and to hold a number of online events which mimic a real life event.
Vin also focuses on other areas including Green ICT, Innovation and social technologies. Vin is leading on the government’s Green-Shift agenda, a major environmental ICT initiative, bringing together Local Authorities, Universities and private sector partners, in developing eGovernment services that will support households and SMEs reduce emissions.
For innovation, Vin is responsible in his role as principal consultant, for the setting up the groundbreaking Cabinet Office’s E-delivery Teams Innovation Centre. Set to go live before end 2007, the centre will showcase innovative private and public sector products and solutions around a given theme, eg remote working, green IT.
Positions held : Vin worked as Principal Consultant for the ONE-Manchester Digital Challenge where he scoped out the requirements for an innovative city-wide wireless/IP network and content delivery system. ONE-Manchester was the highly commended runner up in the national competition and now leads on a number of initiatives in this space.
Lastly, Vin was responsible for scoping and developing the renound Eastserve network, voted one of the world’s intelligent communities in 2006 for Digital Inclusion.
