WWF : Climate Savers Computing
Google, Intel, Dell, IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft, HP, Sun, AMD, Yahoo and many others, have all subscribed to
the WWF’s programme “Climate Savers Computing”that aims to reduce the electricity consumption of both computers and servers.
The Climate Savers Computing programme projects an annual reduction of 54 million tons of CO2 and an economy of 5,5 million dollars, the equivalent of the withdrawal of 11,000 vehicles from roads, for both individuals and businesses. This initiative sits within a larger programme at WWF that aims to tackle climate harming emissions produced by businesses and institutions.
Stefan Henningsson, in charge of this programme in Stockholm, speaks about his vision in this sector that is totally transforming:
“ ICT can contribute to more efficient building and transport. It’s essential to involve businesses in the fight against climate change and ensure they are aware that ecology and economy are linked. We highlight this argument since it makes a big impact on business leaders. We participated, for example, in the last economic forum to make this message known. It is more and more evident that ICT is in the process of winning the fight against carbon. Personally, I’m staying optimistic, things are really starting to move forward.”
