Born in Athens in 1966, he graduated from Mechanical Engineering School, NTUA (1989) and completed his PHD studies in Mechanical Engineering with scholarship from NTUA. (PhD Thesis on "Multigrid technique (MG) applied to Numerical Mechanical Engineering problems" (1994). He worked as Mechanical Engineer for GEWIS Laboratories Gmbh (1989), R&D Manager for "Intelltech SA" (1992-1993), Technical Manager for "Intelltech SA" (1993-1994). Dr. Vournas is the founder of the company "MOTION Hellas". Since 1994 he has been working as Research Assistant for NTUA, Technical Consultant of Enterprises, Ministries (Ministry of Development, General Secretariat of Research and Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transportation), Project Manager, Managing Director and Quality Manager of MOTION Hellas.
His research interests are Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems, Industrial Automation and Real Time Control Systems, Environmental Protection, Energy Management and Waste Management Systems. Dr. Vournas has published over fifty (50) papers and he is the author of five books in these areas. Six students have obtained their MSc Thesis under his supervision. He worked as Project Manager and Research Assistant in over thirty (30) EU and National R&D Projects. Among them are Brite/Euram (EuroMesh, Rinamen), Drive (Metafora), Esprit (Unique, Cimeig), Sprint, Craft, Tide (Home, Transwheel, Recite (Transtech), Intereg (Innotrax), Leornado, Ist, Growth etc
Contribution
With the increasing expansion of the Waste Refuse and Recycling industries, HELECTOR (GR), HERHOF GmbH (D), NTUA (GR) and MOTION HELLAS (GR), are at the forefront of Waste Management Solutions and are involved in the field of renewable energy and Environmental Technologies. Our actions focus on sustainable management of the environment and its resources. We are advancing our knowledge by observing human activities and developing new technologies, tools and services, in order to address in an integrate way global environmental issues. The emphasis will be put on tools (ICT, automation systems) and environmental technologies for production and monitoring, prevention and mitigation of environmental pressures and risks including health, as well as the conservation of the natural and man-made environment. Our aim is to develop a new innovative process for energy production by using ICT innovative technologies. Waste Management Consultants, Automation and Energy technology suppliers and service operators and Public Authorities (municipalities, region bodies etc) will ensure durable implementation of the process and services. In addition, research bodies will support architecture development, standardisation and evaluation.
